A Nigerian company in the oil servicing sector, Eunisell yesterday,
in Lagos unveiled a new set of jerseys for Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt in a brief but impressive ceremony at the Renaissance Hotel, GRA Ikeja. In addition to the kitting deal, which details were not given, the sponsors also announced a N10m reward to the club for its good showing in the 2015/16 season, where the club placed second behind champions, Rangers of Enugu. The club also won the Super Four pre-season tournament hosted in Enugu. Group Managing Director of the company, Chika Ikenga told journalists that his organisation expects Rivers United to compensate their teeming supporters with the league title in the 2016/17 season which begins tomorrow. “In addition to the NPFL title, we hope to see them become continental champions,” Ikenga said, adding, “we hope to see them bring glory to the state, Nigeria and happiness to their enthusiastic fans across the country.” Responding, the General Manager of the club, Chief Okey Kpalukwu promised that, “we are going to win the league and do well in the continent.” The club boss recalled that last season, “we entered the league in a hurry without adequate preparation and we came second. With what we have put into our preparations this time around, we promise to come up tops at the end of the season.” The bond between Rivers United and Eunisell dates back to the days the club was Sharks.
