As Nigeria marks its 64th Independence Day, Captain Chris Ona Najomo, the Acting Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), acknowledged the country’s progress and emphasized the pivotal role the NCAA has played in advancing the nation’s economic growth. In a heartfelt message, Captain Najomo congratulated Nigerians while highlighting the critical contributions of the aviation sector to Nigeria’s development.
“The flight has been hectic, still, we navigate the path until we get to the destination,” Captain Najomo said, reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of the nation’s journey. He praised the resilience of Nigeria and the progress made, particularly in the civil aviation sector, which has been a major driver of economic activity and international connectivity.
As the regulatory authority for the Nigerian civil aviation industry, the NCAA is statutorily tasked with ensuring the safety, security, and operational efficiency of the aviation sector. Under Captain Najomo’s leadership, supported by eleven (11) directorates, the NCAA has strengthened safety protocols, modernized infrastructure, and facilitated airline growth, all of which have contributed significantly to the nation’s economic performance. Departments directly under the office of the Director-General, including Airworthiness, Aerodrome Standards, and Consumer Protection, play crucial roles in maintaining Nigeria’s status as an aviation hub in Africa.
Captain Najomo noted that the aviation sector has contributed to national growth by connecting Nigeria to the world, facilitating international trade, tourism, and creating thousands of jobs. He emphasized that by enhancing regulatory oversight and compliance with international standards, the NCAA has played a central role in boosting the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“In the spirit of celebration, let’s work together to keep the stocks of our nation soaring,” Captain Najomo urged, calling for unity and collaboration in building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria. He reiterated the NCAA’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards in aviation safety, security, and service delivery, ensuring that Nigeria continues to thrive on the global stage.
As Nigeria celebrates its 64th year of independence, Captain Najomo’s message serves as a reminder of the vital role the aviation industry has played in the country’s development and the NCAA’s unwavering commitment to driving further progress.
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, NIGERIA.
