The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is actively probing a significant incident involving Aero contractors Airlines’ Boeing 733, bearing the registration 5N-BYQ. The occurrence transpired at approximately 10:47 am (Local Time) on November 12, 2023, upon the aircraft’s landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja from Lagos.

According to Dr. James Odaudu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NSIB, the aircraft, attempting to exit the runway via A4, experienced its nose wheel becoming lodged in the grass verge, resulting in the fuselage partially obstructing the runway. Subsequently, the runway was temporarily closed pending the safe towing of the aircraft.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. In light of this, NSIB is actively seeking assistance from the public, encouraging the submission of pictures, videos, or recording evidence to aid in their comprehensive investigation. Communication with NSIB can be established through info@aib.gov.ng, NSIB_Nigeria on social media platforms, or the emergency line at +234-807-709-0909.

The Bureau emphasizes the importance of respecting the privacy of the individuals on board and urges against presuming the cause of the incident until the formal report is released. NSIB, a multimodal investigation agency, is mandated to investigate transportation accidents and serious incidents in Nigeria with the goal of identifying probable causes and proposing safety recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.

NSIB commits to releasing the preliminary report at the earliest opportunity as part of its commitment to transparency and safety in air transportation.
