BDAN Membership Increases By Four New Banks

Four banks that were granted operating license recently in the Nigerian banking industry by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has joined their colleagues.

The Bank Directors Association of Nigeria (BDAN), the umbrella body of directors of banks in the country. Jaiz Bank was the first bank to be granted a non-interest (Islamic) banking licence. Rand Merchant and FSDH Merchant Banks became the first merchant banks to be licensed under the new banking model introduced by the CBN in 2009, while Heritage Bank acquired the licence of the former Societe Generale Bank, to commence operation as a commercial bank.

The umbrella body of directors of banks in the country has concluded plans to hold a business luncheon to formally welcome new members from four banks. The banks are FSDH Merchant Bank, Heritage Bank Limited, Jaiz Bank and Rand Merchant Bank.

The event, which is sponsored by Fidelity Bank, is scheduled to hold in Lagos next Friday. It would be attended by chairmen and directors of banks, as well as top officials of Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

BDAN was established in 1997 as a platform for improving the knowledge and the competence of bank directors, thereby promoting sound banking practice in the country. As a result, the association has been contributing to the development in the banking industry through recommendations and comments on policy and topical issues in the industry.
