Living up to one of its core values – integrity, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), during its 58th Annual Bankers Dinner and the grand finale of its 60th Anniversary, handed out awards to a Keke rider and 3 others who had showed varying degrees of integrity in the past.At the event held on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Eko Hotels, award presentations were made to four honest individuals under the Outstanding Integrity Award category.
The first recipient under this category was a 22-year-old ‘Keke’ rider Auwalu Salisu Alkasim, who returned N15,000,000.00 to the owner in Kano. Miss Kekwaaru Ngozi Mary, a staff of Eko Hotel and Suites was also one of the beneficiaries of the award.
She found and returned $70,000 belonging to a customer of the hotel. The third recipient of the Outstanding Integrity Awards was a staff of Zenith bank, Mr. Chukwuekwu Osafiele, who had declined huge financial compensation promised him, and prevented a cybercriminal attack on the bank.
The final awardee in this category was Mrs. Ogor Esther Oboh, a customer of Zenith Bank who had received an inflow of N245,000,000.00 naira and at once contacted her bank to inform them of the wrong payment.While announcing the award category, the Registrar Chief Executive of the CIBN, Mr. Akin Morakinyo noted that the awards were meant for individuals who had shown elevated level of integrity in their everyday activities.The awards were presented to the deserving individuals by the President Chairman of Council of the CIBN, Dr. Ken Opara and supported by the Chairman, Body of Past Presidents, Mr. Ralph Osayameh and the distinguished office holders.
Mrs. Yemisi Edun, the MD/CEO of FCMB promised to support the awardees with N1,000,000.00 each, with Zenith Bank also promising financial reward to the awardees.Other awards handed out at the dinner event were the Legendary Awards, given to Past Presidents of the Institute for their outstanding contributions towards nurturing, growing, and developing the CIBN; the Sectoral Stellar Award, an award for the most digitally innovative Deposit Money Bank in Nigeria which was won by Wema Bank; the X factor Award, an award for a leading female banker breaking the glass ceiling and inspiring a more gender inclusive industry which was won by Tosin Leye-Odeyemi of Stanbic-IBTC Bank and the Next Generation Class of 2023 Award which had over 14 nominees who met the criteria.
