Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested Mr. Thomas Ayibabrakemi, alias Sisco, the suspected killer of the Divisional Crime Officer, Oporoma Police Division, Mr. Ajayi Abiodun.

The suspected cult member allegedly led an armed gang on March 21, 2018 to attack the police division in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state and set it ablaze.

The arson led to the death of Abiodun, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, on that day.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Asinim Butswat, in a statement on Thursday, said the 39-year-old was arrested on April 13 in a hotel at Aritalin, in the Yenagoa area of the state.

He said, “On April 13, 2018, around 1pm, based on credible intelligence, detectives from the ACU of the Bayelsa State Police Command arrested the mastermind of the attack on the Oporoma division, one Thomas Ayibabrakemi Michael.

“The suspect confessed to be a member of the Greenland cult and admitted to have led his gang to attack the police division.

“Operatives are on the trail of other gang members who participated in the attack.”

Butswat said the police were poised to ensure the safety of lives and property of residents of the state.
