The national power grid collapsed again on Saturday, plunging the country into total darkness. The grid failure occurred around 3 PM today, according to reports from our correspondent.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) confirmed the collapse, announcing that all its interfaces with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) stations are out of supply. This disruption has left customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States without power.

In an official statement, EEDC expressed its inability to provide services to its customers due to the system collapse. The Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, Emeka Ezeh, explained the situation: “The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company wishes to inform its esteemed customers of a general system collapse which occurred at 15:09 hours today, 6th July 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network. Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.”

Ezeh added that EEDC is awaiting detailed information on the cause of the collapse and the restoration of supply from the National Control Centre in Osogbo. The extent of the blackout’s impact and the estimated time for power restoration are yet to be disclosed.

The collapse has prompted a wave of frustration among residents and businesses affected by the blackout. Similar incidents have raised concerns about the reliability of Nigeria’s power infrastructure and its capacity to sustain the nation’s electricity demands.

Further details on the cause of the collapse and efforts to restore power will be provided as they become available.
