United States-based global carrier, Delta Air Lines, has restated its dedication to maintaining its position as the preferred premium carrier for Nigerian passengers amidst the resurgence of air travel following the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a visit to Nigeria, Paul Hassenstab, the Director of Sales for Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India at Delta Air Lines, reiterated the airline’s commitment alongside other top executives from the Atlanta-based carrier. Delta, which operates flights to key destinations across Africa, recently celebrated 17 years of providing uninterrupted non-stop scheduled flights to Nigeria, the continent’s largest economy.

With a vast network spanning over 275 destinations worldwide and having served over 200 million passengers in 2023, Delta remains steadfast in its promise to deliver exceptional services to the Nigerian community.

Hassenstab affirmed Delta’s commitment to Nigeria, stating, “We want to continue to be the premium carrier of choice for Nigeria and remain dedicated to the Nigerian community we serve.”

While there are expectations for Delta to expand its services to other Nigerian cities like Abuja and Port Harcourt, Hassenstab emphasized that the airline’s current priority is to optimize its daily operations on the Lagos route. He expressed Delta’s readiness to explore opportunities for expansion, particularly with the recent acquisition of new wide-body aircraft, including the Airbus A350-900s and A350 Neo.

Acknowledging competition as a catalyst for improvement, Hassenstab welcomed the presence of rival carriers like United Airlines on the Nigeria route. Despite challenges in the past, Delta remains undeterred, having operated uninterrupted flights to Nigeria for nearly two decades.

As part of its long-term sustainability goals, Delta is committed to reducing carbon emissions and investing in renewable fuel initiatives. The airline allocates 10% of its fuel consumption to sustainable aviation fuel and is exploring future alternatives such as hydrogen power.

Delta’s unwavering commitment to Nigeria is evident through its dedicated ground team and continuous efforts to provide unparalleled customer service. With a century of operational excellence on the horizon, Delta looks forward to further strengthening its legacy and partnership with Nigeria.
