Dr. Olayemi Cardoso Assumes Acting Role as CBN Governor Amid Central Bank Leadership Reshuffle

In a significant turn of events, Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso has officially taken up his role as the Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Friday, September 22, 2023. According to the statement sent to The Ameh News TAN endorsed by Isa AbdulMumin PhD Director, Corporate Communications department of CBN says This appointment, while pending Senate confirmation, comes in the wake of Mr. Godwin Emefiele’s resignation as CBN Governor.

He continue In tandem with this shift, Deputy-Governors-Designate have also assumed their duties temporarily following the resignations of Mr. Folashodun Shonubi, Mrs. Aishah Ahmad, Mr. Edward Lametek Adamu, and Dr. Kingsley Obiora as Deputy Governors of the CBN.

“Dr. Cardoso, along with his fellow appointees, undertook the official oath of office during a brief ceremony at the Bank’s Headquarters in Abuja.

“They are now focused on the crucial task of overseeing the monetary and financial sector policies of the Federal Government. Bringing a wealth of experience to his new role, Dr. Cardoso’s career spans over three decades, encompassing positions as an Economic and Development Policy Advisor, Financial Sector Leader, former Chairman of Citi Nigeria, and Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Lagos.

“Dr. Cardoso is an alumnus of Aston University, Birmingham, United Kingdom, where he pursued managerial and administrative studies. He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States of America.It’s worth noting that Dr. Cardoso and his colleagues were initially appointed to their respective positions at the Bank on September 15, 2023, subject to Senate confirmation.
