Embraer ERJ145 Skids Off Runway in Lagos: NSIB Launches Investigation

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has initiated an inquiry into a significant incident involving an Embraer ERJ145 aircraft bearing Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-BWY, operated by United Nigeria Airlines. The event transpired at approximately 06:33 pm (Local Time) on September 8, 2023. The aircraft, carrying 51 passengers and 4 crew members, was en-route from Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri, Imo state, destined for Lagos.Upon landing on Runway 18R at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, the aircraft skidded off the runway. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or fatalities.

The NSIB is now appealing to the public for any photographic, video, or audio evidence that could assist in conducting a thorough investigation. The NSIB, as a multimodal investigation agency, is tasked with investigating transportation accidents and serious incidents in Nigeria, aiming to identify probable causes and provide safety recommendations to prevent future occurrences. A preliminary report will be released by the Bureau in due course.
