A fire outbreak erupted at a building located at 33, Kudirat Abiola Road, off Oregun Road, near First Bank Bus-Stop, Oregun, Lagos, causing panic among residents and businesses in the area. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government (LASG) Fire & Rescue Service, sprang into action to tackle the blaze and ensure the safety of all affected.
The incident, which occurred on the 31st of August, 2024, saw flames quickly engulfing the building, prompting immediate calls for emergency services. Within minutes, the LASEMA Response Team, operating from the Command and Control Centre at Alausa, arrived on the scene, demonstrating their preparedness and commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
Upon arrival, LASEMA, in collaboration with the LASG Fire & Rescue Service, launched a coordinated search and rescue operation. Firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, using advanced firefighting equipment to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures. “We received a distress call at our Command and Control Centre, and our team was immediately dispatched to the scene,” said Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Director-General of LASEMA. “Our priority was to ensure the safety of everyone in the area and to bring the fire under control as quickly as possible. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our partners at the LASG Fire & Rescue Service, we were able to do just that.”
Residents and business owners in the vicinity were evacuated promptly, and no casualties were reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but investigations are underway to ascertain the origins and prevent future occurrences.
Witnesses at the scene commended the emergency services for their swift and effective response. “It was terrifying to see the flames and smoke, but the quick arrival of the LASEMA and Fire Service teams reassured us.
