The National President, Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association (FOBTOB), Comrade Quadri Olaleye, has applauded the judgement of the National Industrial Court (NIC), ordering two Jos-based firms to recall 28 workers who were sacked three years ago for engaging in union activities.

The court ordered Grand Cereals Nigeria Limited and Spring Waters Nigeria Limited, both subsidiaries of United Africa Company Nigeria Plc (UACN) to recall the sacked workers and pay them salary and allowances owed in arrears dating back to their termination and up till the date of the court judgement, less any amount that might have been paid as redundancy or terminal benefits when their employment were terminated.

The companies were also ordered to pay the union (FOBTOB) dues owed in arrears going back to three years when the employees were terminated.

Reacting to the court’s judgement, Mr. Olaleye, said it was a great victory for the association and a great relief to the affected members and their families who had been deprived of their human dignity and constitutional rights by the sister-companies located in Jos.

“This is a clear signal to other employers who are currently victimising union members and executives that the association will do everything to fight for justice for any cadre of its membership,” the Union President said
