Governor Bello Rigs Bell ‘We remain committed to peace, security’

As Kogi State will soon be centre of media and many news readers over planned  to sack workers by  Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello. The Governor to pre-empty any unforeseen troubles has reiterated the commitment of his administration to the maintenance of peace and security of the people of the state.

Bello made the pledge at a programme tagged “Building a People of Peace,” organised by the state directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Lokoja yesterday, expressed the determination of his government to rid the state of all forms of criminal activities.

He stressed that no effort would be spared by the present administration to promote peaceful co-existence among the people, irrespective of tribe and religion.

Represented by the Director General of the Bureau of Information Services and Grassroots Sensitisation (BISGS),

Abdulkarim Abdulmalik, the governor explained that the recently imposed curfew on the entire central senatorial district of the state was based on security reports, noting that more than 30 culprits were apprehended in the process.

He explained that the government of the day would not cover up any shady deals by any group or person, pointing out that the principle of equity, fairness and justice would be maintained.

He called on the people of the state to be responsive to the present fight against insecurity by exposing crime and criminality, stressing that the society would be safer if everyone was fair.


FG confirms murder of two Nigerians in South Africa

The federal government of Nigeria says it is following police investigations on the death of two Nigerians in South Africa.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja on Wednesday, signed by the spokesperson, Tope Elias-Fatile, said their death occurred in two separate incidents.

“The mission informs that the first incident involved Mr Ikechukwu Mmanwoke Edmond, an indigene of Anambra state, who was murdered in front of his home in Marvern, a suburb of Johannesburg.

“The second incident involved Mr Eluka Agu, who was beaten to death during a robbery alongside some unidentified persons in Olievenhoutbosch, Centurion, near Pretoria.

“The federal government wishes to assure that the Consulate-General of Nigeria in Johannesburg has been following Police investigations on the sad development.

The government further commiserated with families of the deceased.

“Meanwhile, our missions in South Africa would continue to engage their host authorities to ensure the safety of Nigerians residing in various parts of the country.” (NAN)
