Guinness Nigeria Plc, a subsidiary of Diageo, is marking 69 years of operations in Nigeria.

The firm, which was established in 1950, says it is the first and only total beverage alcohol company in the country offering a wide range of products across categories.

It says it has been contributing to the economic and social development of the country for nearly seven decades.

A statement on Monday quoted the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Guinness, Mr Baker Magunda, as saying, “From the start of Guinness’ operations in Nigeria, we have not only consistently produced high quality products, we have also modelled our business with the aim of driving local economic growth.

“As the first country to produce Guinness outside of Ireland, Nigeria is an extremely important market to Diageo. This year, we also celebrate being the first country to launch and produce Baileys Delight, a variant of the popular Baileys Cream liquor and also the first country to produce Guinness Gold, a premium lager beer product.

“We are proud that Guinness Nigeria has the most expansive range of brands to offer as compared to any other player in this category. We’ve done well for Nigeria, and we’ve done well for our consumers.”

The firm is involved in several initiatives including Water of Life, where it provides water for 1.5 million Nigerians communities, Grow with Nigeria, a local raw materials sourcing scheme that  empowers local farmers and campaigns with the Federal Road Safety Commission to educate commuters about responsible drinking.

The firm says it demonstrated its commitment to health by building three eye hospitals in Lagos and Onitsha.

“Guinness Nigeria has recently expanded its portfolio with several products including the White Walker by Johnnie Walker,” the statement read in part.
