The second edition of the Insurance Meets Tech (IMT) conference is scheduled to take place on September 28 and 29, 2023, at the Civic Centre Victoria Island Lagos. With the theme “Unlocking Policy and Tech Bottlenecks Hindering Disruptive Insurance Penetration,” IMT 2.0 aims to tackle prevailing concerns in Nigeria’s insurance industry and across the continent.
The conference will bring together prominent players in government, finance, health, tech, and telecom sectors, along with key players in insurance and insurtech. Over the course of two days, policymakers, regulators, keynote speakers, and sector leaders will engage in panel discussions, exhibitions, specialized masterclasses, and product and service demos. The event will serve as a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, insights, and experiences on leveraging technology to enhance insurance penetration and improve industry efficiency. Topics of focus will include the use of data analytics for underwriting and claims management, cyber insurance, and the role of web aggregators in the industry’s value chain.
The IMT 2.0 conference will culminate in a gala and awards evening to recognize excellence and outstanding contributions to the insurance industry. As the COVID-19 pandemic and supportive government policies accelerate the adoption of digital technologies, IMT 2.0 is expected to act as a catalyst for the digital transformation of the insurance industry in Nigeria and across Africa.
According to Odion Aleobua, the convener of the conference, IMT 2.0 will be a game-changer for the insurance industry, building on the successes of the first edition. Notably, Nigeria’s insurance industry has experienced substantial growth, with a 36.3% quarter-on-quarter increase and a 17.8% year-on-year rise in gross premium income in the fourth quarter of 2022, amounting to N726.2 billion.
Furthermore, recent data from Statista indicates that the value of gross life insurance premiums written in Nigeria exceeded €600 million for the first time. The growth in premiums can be attributed to increased awareness of insurance products, expanding distribution channels, and the gradual adoption of technology by insurance companies. While Nigeria’s figures show significant progress, they still fall short when compared to South Africa, where gross property and casualty insurance premiums written reached approximately €5 billion in 2022.
To ensure a high-quality event, IMT has carefully selected speakers and panelists from industry leaders, tech giants, and government regulators to provide delegates with valuable insights on using technology to overcome policy and tech barriers hindering disruptive insurance penetration. IMT 2.0 aims to be bigger, better, and more impactful than its predecessor.
