In a startling revelation, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State unveils the staggering financial burden inherited from the previous administration, led by Nasir El-Rufai. With debts amounting to $587 million, N85 billion, and saddled with 115 contractual liabilities, the state finds itself in a precarious fiscal predicament. Governor Sani, addressing a town hall meeting, expressed deep concern over the impact of the escalating exchange rates, which have resulted in the state paying nearly triple the borrowed amounts. Despite the grim financial landscape, Governor Sani vows steadfastness in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development without resorting to further borrowing.

Emphasizing key priorities such as safety and security, housing, education, healthcare, and support for MSMEs, Governor Sani outlines a comprehensive strategy aimed at inclusive development and economic revitalization. Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), underscores the imperative of addressing security challenges for meaningful progress, commending Governor Sani’s efforts to streamline governance amidst the debt crisis. The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamali, echoes sentiments of optimism, pledging unwavering support from traditional rulers to surmount the economic hurdles and propel Kaduna State towards prosperity.

As Kaduna grapples with its fiscal burdens, Governor Sani’s resolute commitment to fiscal prudence and strategic planning stands as a beacon of hope amidst adversity, signaling a determined effort to navigate the state towards a brighter future despite daunting financial challenges.
