Stakeholders in Nigeria’s aviation industry will gather on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Providence Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos for the 28th Annual Conference of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC). The theme for this year is “Aviation Survivability Amidst a Challenging Macro-Economic Environment.”

Originally scheduled for July 25 at Sheraton Hotel Ikeja, the conference was rescheduled to July 26 at Providence Hotel to better accommodate participants.

According to LAAC Chairman Idris Suleiman, this year conference theme was chosen in response to the challenging state of Nigeria’s economy, which has exacerbated existing constraints on the growth and development of the aviation industry. Issues such as poor access to foreign exchange, a weakening currency, high fuel and maintenance costs, inadequate airport infrastructure, regulatory challenges, increasing manpower demands, the need for technology upgrades, and passenger comfort require urgent attention from industry stakeholders.

The conference will focus on the difficult economic conditions affecting Nigeria’s aviation sector, such as limited access to foreign exchange, a weakening currency, high fuel and maintenance costs, inadequate airport infrastructure, regulatory challenges, increasing manpower demands, and the need for technology upgrades and improved passenger comfort.

Participants can join both physically and virtually, allowing stakeholders from around the world to engage. Over 200 professionals from various sectors including aviation agencies, security agencies, international and domestic airlines, aviation support services, travel service providers, and tour operators are expected to attend.

LAAC, the umbrella body for aviation media in Nigeria, has been instrumental in influencing policy, management, and operational changes in the sector through its annual seminars. These gatherings foster discussions that lead to significant improvements within the industry.

The conference also offers sponsorship opportunities for aviation and related businesses to promote their products and services.

“This year’s conference is unique as it focuses on the industry’s survival and sustainability, which is a critical topic in these challenging times,” said Mr. Chinedu Eze, Chairman of the LAAC Conference Planning Committee.
