Lagos State Reaffirms Commitment to Timely Payment of Retirement Benefits

The Lagos State Government has emphasized its ongoing commitment to ensure that retirement benefits for all state retirees are processed and paid promptly. This statement was made by the Head of Service (HOS), Bode Agoro, during a send-forth ceremony for 115 retirees from the Civil Service covering the first and second quarters of 2024.

Agoro encouraged the retirees to take advantage of the empowerment opportunities provided by the government, which could help them become employers and generate additional income through business ventures. He highlighted various initiatives designed to keep retirees engaged and connected to the state government, such as bi-monthly webinars, quarterly training sessions, skills acquisition programs, vocational training, and mentoring schemes.

Additionally, Agoro reminded the retirees about the post-service department within the Office of the Head of Service, which is dedicated to addressing all issues related to retirees’ welfare packages and enhancing their post-retirement lifestyle.

He expressed deep gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support and exemplary leadership, particularly regarding the welfare of public servants and retirees. Agoro praised the retirees for their professionalism, integrity, and dedication to service, noting that their contributions have significantly shaped the state’s policies and programs.

In her welcoming remarks, Sunkanmi Oyegbola, Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office, acknowledged the retirees’ valuable contributions and stated that retirement marks the beginning of a new chapter filled with opportunities for rest, reflection, and new experiences.

Representing the retirees, Kehinde Akerele from the Ministry of Justice thanked the Lagos State Government for the opportunity to serve and for ensuring a dignified retirement for all retirees.

The ceremony underscored Lagos State’s commitment to the welfare of its public servants, both during and after their service, reinforcing a culture of gratitude and respect for those who have served the state.
