“MAN Advocates for Equitable Regulations to Protect Consumer and Manufacturer Rights”

In a bid to foster a conducive business environment while safeguarding the interests of both consumers and manufacturers, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has urged regulators and the public to prioritize objectivity and fairness.

 

Segun Ajayi-Kadir, mni, the Director General of MAN, emphasized the need for intentional measures to protect manufacturers from the detrimental effects of social media defamation and ensure fairness for all stakeholders. Addressing the impact of unfounded claims on social media, Ajayi-Kadir highlighted the potential threat it poses to businesses and the integrity of manufacturers.

 

MAN stressed the importance of measures that acknowledge the challenges faced by manufacturers in Nigeria and promote consumer patronage and empathy. While affirming consumers’ rights to voice legitimate complaints, Ajayi-Kadir underscored the significance of holding individuals accountable for spreading false information about locally manufactured products.

 

Drawing from recent incidents, including one involving Erisco Foods and a dissatisfied customer, MAN emphasized the need for equal protection of both manufacturers and consumers. The association commended the diligent investigation carried out by regulatory agencies, such as the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency and the Standards Organization of Nigeria, which exonerated the manufacturer of the product in question.

Highlighting the challenging business environment in Nigeria, MAN emphasized the critical role of consumer patronage in sustaining local manufacturing businesses. The association emphasized the negative impact of unverified statements on businesses and called on government agencies to take deliberate steps to protect manufacturers while upholding consumer rights.

 

Furthermore, MAN called for a shift in consumer behavior towards supporting Nigerian manufacturers and showcasing the quality of locally made products on the global market. The association stressed the importance of mutual accountability between manufacturers and consumers to foster economic growth in Nigeria.

 

Ajayi-Kadir reiterated MAN’s advocacy for balanced regulatory policies that protect manufacturers while upholding consumer rights, aiming to create a conducive environment for sustainable business growth in Nigeria. As a responsible association, MAN expressed commitment to ensuring that disputes are resolved amicably for the benefit of all parties involved.
