The management of the manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has stated jobs decline in manufacturing sector at the end of the first half of 2018 adding that an estimated 1,623,515 historical cumulative jobs were created in the manufacturing sector based on the information they gathered from the various surveys conducted over time.
MAN stated that the new manufacturing jobs in the first half of 2018 declined by 35 and 937 jobs from 9355 jobs created in the same half of 2017 and 10,257 jobs created in the preceding half respectively.
“In the period under review, Food, Beverage and Tobacco sectoral group accounted for most of the jobs created in the manufacturing sector. While the sectoral group created 2,999 jobs; Domestic/Industrial Plastic & rubber (1,374 jobs); Basic Metal, Iron & Steel (1,229 jobs); and chemical & pharmaceutical group (1,209 job) in the period.
“Total job loss increased by 838 in the period under review from 5212 jobs created in the preceding half.”
