The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has taken a major step forward in enhancing the safety of the nation’s aviation sector by accrediting the Aerodrome Emergency Training School of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria as an official provider of Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) training.
This groundbreaking accreditation ceremony, held at NCAA’s headquarters in Abuja, underscores the commitment of the Acting Director General of Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, to streamline aviation processes while upholding robust safety standards. For the first time in Nigeria, ARFF training will now be conducted domestically, allowing the country to independently train personnel crucial for aircraft rescue and firefighting operations—an advancement poised to transform the aviation landscape.
The benefits of this accreditation are extensive. Not only will it fortify NCAT’s standing and attract both domestic and international students, but it will also enhance the institution’s global reputation, bringing a positive flow of foreign exchange. More importantly, this accreditation promises to significantly elevate Nigeria’s aviation safety standards, ensuring that regulatory compliance aligns with international benchmarks and positioning Nigeria as a preferred hub for aviation training across Africa.
Acting Rector of NCAT, Mr. Joseph Imalighwe, expressed his gratitude to Captain Najomo for his visionary leadership, affirming that NCAT will uphold the high standards expected by the NCAA. This move not only strengthens Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure but also opens doors to increased recognition and funding from international aviation stakeholders.
