NCS Zonal PRO Commends CGC Hameed Ali on reforms for seamless port operations

* E-Customs will ensure end-to-end Automation – Says SC Nwala

The Customs Zonal Public Relations Officer (PRO), in charge of Zone ‘A’, Nkiru Nwala, has declared that Customs modernisation process over the years has been consistently progressive.

Nwala made this declaration while representing Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), at the occasion of a 2021 Annual Conference/awards on seamless port operations, organised by Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), at Sheraton hotel, Lagos.

The Zonal PRO while highlighting different stages of Customs modernisation pointed out; “Customs Journey to modernisation has been consistently progressive. The process began from the days of ASYCUDA; ASYCUDA ++; NICIS 1; NICIS 11 and now the e- Customs.

“The big picture is for NCS to enter the regime of Paperless Clearance Operations with end-to- end Automation without person to person contacts. The main features of the e- Customs when fully implemented will ensure deployment of e- Customs Production Applications, which includes e- Clearance; e- Port System; Risk Control Centre (RCC); logistics Management System ( LMS); Electronic Cargo Tracking System ( ECTS); Intelligent Gate( I- gate) and Mobile Enforcement ( ME)”.

Giving more details on Customs perspective in Seamless Port Operations,Nwala, who is a Superintendent of Customs (SC),stressed that at various stages of the modernisation process, the Service has recorded spectacular achievements in trade facilitation, revenue collection for the Federal Government and anti-smuggling drive.

SC Nwala applauded the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Hameed Ali on his ingenuity in Customs reforms, which brings about remarkable feats in revenue generation, increase in export trade facilitations and anti-smuggling operations across all Customs formations in the country.
She pointed out; “For instance, Customs collected N1.5 trillion revenue for government in 2020 fiscal year.”

Going further, SC Nwala commended the Customs boss on capacity building programmes designed to upscale the competences of officers in various units of the Service.

She also scored the CGC high on welfare of officers, provisions of operational vehicles, as well as other work tools, regular promotion of officers to boost their morale and issuance of commendation letters to Commands on exceptional performance.

Moreso, Nwala lauded the Zonal Coordinator, in charge of Customs in Zone ‘A’ ACG Modupe Aremu, for her exemplary leadership in coordinating activities of all the Commands under her command
