Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to improving the welfare of its personnel nationwide by implementing a housing initiative.
The announcement came during a ceremony held on Thursday, March 7, 2024, in Kaduna, where the NCS officially launched its housing scheme at Gidan Iyali Estate, Millennium City, Kaduna.
Addressing attendees, CGC Adeniyi emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, “This ceremony is not the last episode of what we have planned. There are projects similar to this in Kano, Asaba, Yola, Abuja, Enugu, and Uyo ready for flag-off. The national spread is aimed at providing officers and men of the service the opportunity to access and benefit from the laudable initiative that is not just pocket-friendly but also at convenient locations.”
He also highlighted a previous milestone achieved by the NCS, recalling the flag-off ceremony for a similar project of 5000 houses in Ibadan on December 18, 2023. This initiative, he explained, was designed to support serving officers and men of the NCS, addressing the housing needs of personnel, including retirees.
Adeniyi underscored the importance of the housing scheme in providing dignified accommodation for NCS personnel and their families, aligning with President Tinubu’s vision to make affordable housing accessible to Nigerians. He commended Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state for his unwavering support towards the success of the initiative.
Encouraging officers to actively participate in the project, Adeniyi assured them of the NCS’s commitment to facilitating the process through a cooperative mortgage bank partnership, ensuring efficient management of payments.
George Anih, Portfolio and Assets Manager of Family Homes, reiterated his firm’s commitment to providing affordable housing solutions for Nigerians, pledging to collaborate with the NCS to deliver 5000 houses for its officers and men.
Musa Abubakar, Managing Director of Cooperative Mortgage Bank, also affirmed his dedication to supporting the successful completion of the project, underscoring the importance of partnerships in achieving shared objectives.
