Nigerian Breweries reacts to ongoing dispute with NLRC

Nigerian Breweries Plc, on Wednesday released a statement on the ongoing dispute with the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC).

 

In the statement, the company confirmed the sealing of its Corporate Headquarters in Lagos and two other offices in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on the 12th and 13th of November by officials of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission.

 

Prior to the above actions, the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) on behalf of its member companies (including Nigerian Breweries) had instituted an action in court against NLRC challenging the powers of the commission to regulate consumer sales promotion in the country more so as they form part of the marketing and sales activities of the concerned companies. The court action is pending at the court of appeal.

 

The NLRC had demanded from the company, certain disputed fees on the company’s consumer sales promotion, request the company had resisted on the basis of the pending court action.

 

The company said that its Lagos and Abuja offices were subsequently unsealed by the NLRC on the evening of 13th November, 2018.

 

The firm stated its resolve to continue to engage with all appropriate stakeholders while seeking to protect and uphold the company’s reputation as a good corporate citizen in the country.
