Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Telecommunications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, has provided an update on the progress of Nigeria’s 3MTT (3 Million Technical Talents) programme as it concludes its first phase. The announcement comes as a culmination of months of intensive training across 12 skill areas for the inaugural cohort of fellows.

The minister confirmed that the selection of fellows for the second phase of the 3MTT programme would be unveiled on Thursday, February 29th, 2024, with training set to commence in March. The first cohort’s feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, indicating the effectiveness of the training programs and the prototype phase.

As the program transitions into its next phase, aiming to train an additional 270,000 fellows over the next 18 months, Dr. Tijani expressed gratitude for the growing support from partners and stakeholders. Notable supporters include @NITDANigeria, @IHSTowers, and @UNDPNigeria, with anticipation for more partnerships to bolster the initiative’s success.

A significant development highlighted by Dr. Tijani is the imminent job placements for graduates of the first cohort. Over 1,400 organizations have expressed interest in hiring fellows from the program, emphasizing its dual objective of providing technical training and facilitating job connections. The minister assured that the first wave of job placements would be announced in the coming weeks, marking a crucial milestone in the 3MTT Programme’s mission to foster Nigerian talent and excellence in the digital landscape.
