The National Information Technology Development Agency, Galaxy Backbone and the Federal Institute of Industrial Research have confirmed their participation in this year’s Digital Innovation Conference, which will hold in Kano State.

Some other collaborating agencies and institutions include the Nigeria Postal Service, the Nigerian Communications Commission and Bayero University Kano.

These agencies confirmed their participation in separate correspondences to the organiser of the event, Centre for Cyber Awareness and Development.

Specifically, both the NITDA and Galaxy Backbone said their endorsement and subsequent participation at the event, scheduled for August 18-19, was part of the present Federal Government’s agenda to spread its tentacles towards diversifying the economy, which hitherto depended on crude oil.

“The best way to get out of the present economic quagmire is to explore opportunities in digital innovations. This is where the world is going. As a government agency saddled with the responsibility of building Information Technology capacity, especially among the youths, we cannot be left out of the opportunities this year’s Digital Innovations Conference presents,” the Head of Corporate Affairs Department at NITDA, Hadiza Umar, said.

Also giving reasons for its participation at the event, Galaxy Backbone said the conference was coming at the right time and was in tandem with its pursuance of digital inclusion in order to meet the government’s aspiration for a digitally inclusive society.

The company’s Head, Corporate Communications, Mr. Ginger Ekeh, said, “The conference would give us an opportunity to share our agenda to see the full digitisation of the public sector.”

In a related development, the Director General, FIIRO, noted that the agency was proud to identify with CECAD in its efforts to build new capacities and drive empowerment through research.

Meanwhile, CECAD, the organiser of the conference, stated that the conference would examine how the rapid expansion of digital technology and broadband was transforming the economic opportunities for millions of Nigerians.

The Executive Director for CECAD, Dr. BayeroAgabi, said the conference presented an opportunity to engage multi-stakeholders of high-powered panellists, experts and audience drawn from both the public and private sectors of the Nigerian economy to articulate best ways for promoting youth innovation, job creation and economic development in the digital world.

“The world is going digital and Nigeria cannot be left out. We are providing a platform for stakeholders to articulate best ways for government and the private sector to drive this digital agenda,” he added.
