In a series of successful operations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized over four tons of illicit drugs, including nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, across multiple states.
Additionally, 40 tons of cannabis plants were destroyed in Ekiti.In a significant bust along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway, NDLEA operatives intercepted 1,194 cylinders of laughing gas, weighing 2,547.2 kilograms, being transported in two Toyota Sienna buses. Two suspects, Onyebuchi Ikpozu and Kenneth Igwe, were arrested while attempting to distribute the consignments in the Federal Capital Territory.Further operations yielded 977 kilograms of skunk in a trailer marked LSR 343 XW, leading to the arrests of two individuals, Auwal Mohammed and Abdullahi Abubakar.
In the FCT, two suspects, Mutari Abdulazeez and Ayuba Madaki, were apprehended with methamphetamine, cannabis, and tramadol.
Additional arrests included individuals caught with illicit drugs such as skunk, pentazocine injection, codeine syrup, and more in various states, including Jigawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Edo. Notably, 40,000 kilograms of cannabis plants were destroyed in Ekiti state during a massive operation.
Throughout the week, NDLEA Commands conducted sensitization lectures and advocacy visits across the country to combat drug abuse, reaching out to schools, worship centers, and communities.
