NSE market capitalization sustains downward stride by 0.10%

In the week that ended on Friday 10th August, 2018, a total turnover of 925.630 million shares worth N8.333 billion in 15,565 deals were traded this week by investors on the floor of the Exchange in contrast to a total of 1.391 billion shares valued at N20.316 billion that exchanged hands last week in 20,064 deals.

The Financial Services Industry, when measured by volume, led the activity chart with 680.751 million shares valued at N5.283 billion traded in 8,524 deals; thus contributing 73.54% and 63.40% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively. The Healthcare Industry followed with 47.664 million shares worth N31.197 million in 531 deals. The third place was occupied by Conglomerates Industry with a turnover of 40.814 million shares worth N63.710 million in 728 deals.

Trading in the Top Three Equities namely; United Bank for Africa Plc, Wema Bank Plc and Zenith International Bank Plc, measured by volume, accounted for 260.554 million shares worth N2.790 billion in 2,266 deals, contributing 28.15% and 33.48% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

ETPs

Also traded during the week were a total of 1,727 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N333,925.78 executed in 9 deals, compared with a total of 2,304 units valued at N376,541.65 that was transacted last week in 16 deals.

BONDS

A total of 7,787 units of Federal Government Bond valued at N8.005 million were traded this week in 11 deals compared with a total of 16,463 units valued at N18.200 million transacted last week in 27 deals.

INDEX MOVEMENT

The NSE All-Share Index depreciated by 2.89% while Market Capitalization depreciated by 2.86% to close the week at 35,446.47 and N12.941 trillion respectively.

Similarly, all other indices finished lower with the exception of the ASeM Index that closed flat.

SUMMARY OF PRICE CHANGES

Twenty (20) equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than thirty-four (34) in the previous week. Forty-seven (47) equities depreciated in price, lower than forty-eight (48) equities of the previous week, while one hundred and three (103) equities remained unchanged higher than eighty-seven (87) equities recorded in the preceding week.

New Listing

Debt

A total volume of 28,200,000 units of 17.50% N28.2billion fixed rate bond issued by Plateau State were admitted to trade at the Exchange on the 9th of August, 2018

Supplementary Listings

Debt

Additional volumes of 46,394,252, 11,580,600 and 8,925,500 units were added to the following bonds 13.98% FGN Feb 2028, 13.53% FGN MAR 2025, and 12.75% FGN APR 2023 respectively on Tuesday August 7, 2018.

Equity

An additional volume of 64,208,713 units of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc resulting from the Scrip Dividend offered to eligible shareholders who were elected to receive new ordinary shares in lieu of cash dividends with respect to the 50 kobo dividend declared for the year ended 31 December 2017 were added to its outstanding shares on Thursday 9th of August, 2018. By this action, the total outstanding shares of the company now stood at 10,113,674,444 units.

Meanwhile, at the close of Monday’s trading activities, the market fell by 0.10 per cent.

The All Share Index today closed at 35,410.61 basis points falling by 35.86 basis points while the market capitalisation fell by 13 billion Naira to close at N12,928 trillion Naira compared to Fridays closing of 35,446.47 basis points and N12,941trillion Naira respectively.

The Stock exchange traded a total of 160 million shares worth 221 billion Naira in 3,120.00 deals.

14 registered stocks gained on monday while 26 fell with all others remaining unchanged as against Friday’s15 gainers, 25 losers.

GAINERS

On the lead for the gainers’ tabke is ETERNA PLC with an opening price of N6.55 kobo per share and a closing price of N7.20 kobo per share, gaining 0.65 kobo or 9.92 per cent.

Next is U A C N PLC which opened for transaction at N13.00 per share and closed at N14.00 per share gained N1.00 or 7.69 per cent.

Then COURTEVILLE BUSINESS SOLUTIONS PLC opened at 0.20 kobo per share and closed at 0.21 kobo per share, gaining 0.01kobo or 5.00 per cent.

LOSERS

Topping the losers’ chart however is 8 MUTUAL BENEFITS ASSURANCE PLC which opened at 0.33 kobo per share and closed at 0.30 kobo per share, depreciating by 0.03 kobo or 9.09 per cent.

While, UNION DIAGNOSTIC & CLINICAL SERVICES PLC followed with an opening price of 0.33 kobo per share and a closing price of 0.30 kobo per share, fell by 0.03 kobo or 9.09 per cent.

Then LIVESTOCK FEEDS PLC fell by 0.06 kobo or 8.70 per cent to close at 0.63 kobo per share after opening at 0.69 kobo per share.
