…. Ogala, Onukwuba battle for VP

The Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria, OAAN begins its 2019 annual general meeting today, June 21, 2019 in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital and top on the agenda is the election of the new leaders for the association on Saturday June 22, 2019.

In what could have been a keen battle for the top job, Emmanuel Ajufo, the current vice president emerged unopposed for the position of the president, according to the list released by the electoral committee.

In a statement signed on June 13, 2019 and made available to Amehnews, the chairman of the electoral committee of OAAN, Wole Odunbajo said, “Further to the meeting of 2019 Electoral Committee, held on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, below are the list of the candidates who are quailed and recommended to contest on the various offices.”.

Odunbajo further stated that if anyone in the association has reason(s) why any of the listed candidates should not vie for any office, he or she should contact the secretariat with such complain.

“If anyone has reason(s) why any of them should not be considered, kindly inform the secretariat via email on or before close of business on Friday, June 14, 2019,” he said,

Further investigations shown, none of the 14 persons listed as qualified and recommended had been disqualified.

Those on the list are Emmanuel Ajufo for president, Femi Ogala current general secretary and Ify Onukwuba, current ex-officio for vice president.

Others are Sola Akinsiku, Churchill Nwagwu, Bidwell Okere and Tunde Oyekan for general secretary, assistant secretary, treasurer and publicity secretary respectively.

Meanwhile, seven candidates were listed for the five vacant seats for ex-officio positions and they are Kalada Jack, Babs Fagade, Mrs. Adeola Odesanya, Mrs. Dupe Adewuyi, Felix Ehikhwuemen, George Onwujiariri and Omo Abunene.

Industry analysts believe that since the position of the president has been declared unopposed, the battle is shifted to the position of the vice president, which is being contested for by two industry greats- Femi Ogala and Ify Onukwuba.

According to a reliable source in OAAN, Ogala stands a greater chance since he was persuaded by some prominent members to step down for Ajufo as an unopposed candidate.

“Ify is a prominent member of the association. She has deep knowledge about the industry and challenges currently plaguing the industry, but Femi stand a good chance because he just finished a great job as a general secretary,” the source stated.

Ify who many believe may step down at the wee hours to the election works with Nigeria Advertising Services Limited, one of the oldest out-of-home agencies in Nigeria. However, Ify’s company is seen as an advantage for her since the current exco lacks veteran agency presence.

It will be recalled that Mr. Babatunde Adedoyin, the out going president, who has led the association for the past four years will be passing on the baton to Ajufo who is currently the only one seeking to replace Adedoyin.
