… more on what I told Brand Journos at a media parley we organised for our friends, last weekend

It is with great pleasure, humility and honour that I welcome you to this media parley. For those who already know me, we might have met when I was handling media and public relations at the Oando Group – Nigeria’s leading indigenous energy conglomerate – or perhaps it was during my time at another foremost oil & gas corporate, Forte Oil PLC, as the Head of Brand & Corporate Communications. In 2015, I left Forte Oil to start up Modion Communications, a full spectrum agency, focused on providing public relations, brand development, marketing activations, media engagement, crisis communications, financial PR, investors’ relation Support, event management, digital marketing and media publishing.

Odion Aleobua, Chief Executive Officer at Modion Communications

Though we are based in Lagos, Nigeria, we envision an African dominance through superior, innovative, creative, cutting-edge communications solutions to individuals, small businesses, large corporate, industries and government agencies. We are confident that this is a destination we are capable of establishing our footprints. In just two years of our set up, we are proud that we have been able to work with leading brands and organisations such as Oando, Leadway Assurance, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, Rain Oil, the Nigerian Gas Association (NGA), Platform Petroleum, Nepal Oil and Gas Services Limited, Propetrol Limited, to mention but a few.

We feel blessed to have done some great and creative works for some great brands, in spite of the economic recession that characterised the period. During the year, we helped organise one of the leading conferences in the energy sector – the NGA 10th International Conference & Exhibition held in Abuja. The event had in attendance the Minster of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, CEOs of leading International Oil Companies (IOCs), GMD of the NNPC, Legislators and other key stakeholders in the Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. We also launched a content marketing campaign for Leadway Assurance – one of Nigeria’s foremost and most respected insurers – to creatively sell its products through a year-long editorial series in mainstream newspapers. In the same vein, we had the privilege of developing the brand identity for the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) – an initiative of the Lagos State Government established to provide institutional and financial support to Micro, Small & Media Enterprises (MSMEs) as a strategy to boost job creation as well as train and seek employment opportunities for the unemployed in the State. We are currently providing full communications advisory to the LSETF.

In the light of an eventful 2016, our outlook for 2017 is very positive and optimistic. We believe agencies who are able to provide integrated marketing communications with strong engagement tactics on the digital and traditional platform will excel in 2017 despite the current economic realities. The PR Agencies who can craft compelling narratives for their clients and creatively use other platforms to amplify messages will be at an advantage. Those who can evaluate their strategies and tactics deployed for clients to show ROI will gain the trust of their clients.

In continuation of the current communications trend, digital deployment will continue to grow in the dimension of tactics and budget. But with the social media space still grasping with the issues of credible information dissemination – especially as Fake News assume a new normal – the traditional mainstream media will be relied on for validation. This will once again help them gain ground hitherto lost to social media platforms in the wake of the new media phenomena.

In 2017, Modion Communications will be poised to play strongly in the digital and online media space as well as marketing communications deployments. Market activations and stakeholder engagements will likely dominate our offerings during the year. We are also likely to expand our operations with strategic acquisitions. We are currently in talks with our partners in this regard.

Looking back we are proud of what we have achieved in the last 2 years and I am thankful to the Modion Communications team; Their energies, commitment and drive ensured we deployed our plans with execution excellence that helped us exceed the expectation of our clientele. Also, I am eternally grateful to our clients who have shown confidence in this young startup. It gives me hope for future startups that bigger corporations will provide them the opportunity to demonstrate capacity and grow their businesses.

I thank you all for finding time out from your valuable weekend for this parley. I wish you a happy, fruitful and healthy New Year.
