PDP federal lawmaker alleges harassment, intimidation by APC thugs in Zamfara

A member representing Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, Suleiman Abubakar Gummi has claimed persistent intimidations and harassment by political thugs allegedly sponsored by APC heavyweights in the state.

Speaking with newsmen in Gusau, the State capital, Gummi explained alleged that an APC chieftain in Gummi town, Maikwarya Gummi has been sponsoring thugs to harass and intimidate him.

The federal lawmaker claimed that on many occasions, his campaign office, billboards and posters were destroyed by the thugs on the orders of Maikwarya.

Gummi recalled that there was a time when the political thugs attempted to burn down the office he built for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gummi town”

“They have made several attempts to set the office ablaze but were prevented by security agents and well-wishers in the town”

“The APC stalwart, Maikwarya was not comfortable with my growing popularity in the zone, being the main reason he has been attacking me by using political thugs to humiliate and intimidate me”

He further hinted that Maikwarya had once told his supporters that even if they kill a PDP member, nothing would happen.

The federal lawmaker commended security operatives in the area for their efforts in maintaining peace and order.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach Maikwarya Gummi by DAILY POST proved abortive as he could not be reached to react to the allegations against him by the federal lawmaker.

However, when contacted, the Chairman, Zamfara State Anti Thuggery Committee, Bello Mohammed Bakyasuwa denied having any knowledge of the alleged harassment and intimidation of the federal lawmaker.

He assured that he would investigate the issue and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

He maintained that his committee would work according to its schedule to ensure peaceful conduct of the forthcoming general elections in the state.

He warned that his committee would not condone any acts of thuggery that could destabilize the existing peace in the state.
