The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, has commended digital entrepreneurs using YouTube to promote their brand for influencing the world positively.
He made this commendation while meeting with entertainers, women in business and digital entrepreneurs during a visit to the British Council in Lagos on Wednesday.
Prince Charles’ three-day visit to Nigeria with his wife, Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Camilla, aims to strengthen bilateral ties between Britain, Nigeria and other Commonwealth countries.
He described the works of Sisi Yemmie, a lifestyle and food review channel managed by Yemisi Odusanya; Battlebox, an authentic video content on Nigeria owned by Yemisi Ilo; and Miss Techie, a consumer gadget review blog founded by Tobi Ayeni as ‘brilliant’.
According to Prince Charles, YouTube is a platform where the entrepreneurs could share valuable messages with people globally.
While describing the impact of their brands, the three YouTubers said they gathered most views from Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada.
The Prince will also attend a British Council arts festival to celebrate Nigeria’s thriving arts scene and mark the 75th anniversary of the British Council in Nigeria.
Speaking ahead of the visit, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright, had said part of the agenda of the visit was for Prince Charles to discuss practical solutions to alleviating the tensions arising from the activities of herdsmen.
He added, “Prince Charles has not been here since the past 12 years; 2006 was the last time he was here and the Duchess of Cornwall has never been to Nigeria. So, it is about strengthening ties, particularly people-to-people ties.
“We want to ensure that through the Commonwealth, which is another theme of the prince’s visit, we develop links to develop relationships whether in trade, environment or in education, all of which are important to the future of the Commonwealth and to the future of Nigeria.”
