Shippers Council Receives Prestigious 2019 World Bank Doing Business Ranking Awards

In sheer recognition of the immense contribution and support of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) towards ensuring the success of the Government’s Ease of Doing Business  (EoDB) vision, in addition to an unrelenting driving of Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) overall reform initiatives in 2018, the NSC has been adjudged the winner of the “World Bank 2019 Doing Business Ranking Award” category.

The NSC’s Reform Champion at PEBEC, Miss Adaora Nwonu also bagged a Special Recognition Award, as the Reform Champion of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council on the World Bank 2019 Doing Business Index.

An award which no doubt is a proof of the dedicated Commitment of NSC Executive Secretary, Hassan Bello and his Management determination to ensuring the success of Buhari’s Government initiatives is the second annual PEBEC Awards; and it took place at the State House Conference Hall (Old Banquet Hall), hosted by the PEBEC, a revered body which is chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

In her welcome remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Industry, Trade & Investment / PEBEC Secretary, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole highlighted that the PEBEC Awards was aimed at acknowledging and appreciating the efforts of specific arms of government, sub-national governments; ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government, as well as the private sector stakeholders who contributed significantly to the ease of doing business intervention of the Administration.

She added that the collaborative efforts and continuous support of these stakeholders have significantly contributed towards improving Nigeria’s business climate and overall competitiveness in line with a key strategic objective of the Economic Recovery & Growth Plan (ERGP).

Speaking on the same note, the Vice President and Chairman of PEBEC, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo stressed that it was needful to recognize the stakeholders who implemented the impactful and landmark reforms in the year 2018, as well as to recognize members of the private sector who have expressly supported the intervention.

While presenting the Award to the Executive Secretary/CEO Mr.Hassan Bello, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo congratulated the NSC and urged the Awardees to keep up the excellent work.

An industry watcher, Anthony Emeordi, while emphasizing the importance of the award, told the Maritime First that the nation’s maritime industry would have grown better by now, if Hassan Bello had headed either the Nigerian Ports Authority or the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency.

Presently, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council has emerged as one of the priority MDAs within the scope of the Ease of Doing Business Reform Agenda of the Federal Government; and it has since been driving a number of initiatives to effectively improve the business environment, particularly the port industry environment.
