The Super Eagles, finalists in the AFCON 2023, have been confirmed as part of Pot 1 for the upcoming draw of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. This announcement was made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ahead of tonight’s draw ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Nigeria, currently ranked fifth in Africa according to the latest FIFA rankings, joins other top-ranked nations including hosts Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Mali, South Africa, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo in Pot 1. This grouping ensures that Nigeria avoids potential matches against these formidable opponents in the initial group stage.

The draw for the AFCON 2025 qualifiers will form 12 groups comprising four teams each (Groups A to L). All except the group featuring Morocco, as hosts, will have the top two teams qualifying for the finals. Scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, the AFCON 2025 promises intense competition as nations vie for continental glory.
