Union Bank Champions Inclusivity and Female Empowerment at 2024 International Women’s Day Celebration

  Union Bank of Nigeria has once again underscored its commitment to fostering a fair and inclusive society free from biases, stereotypes, and discrimination. The bank reaffirmed this stance during a special event organized to mark this year’s International Women’s Day celebration, held under the global theme #InspireInclusion.

Dubbed “Ability Over Gender,” the event provided Union Bank with a distinctive platform to showcase its dedication to gender inclusivity and the advancement of female excellence and competence across various fields. The occasion featured a keynote address delivered by the bank’s new CEO, Yetunde B. Oni, who reiterated Union Bank’s pledge to continue advocating for the progress of women and other marginalized groups, while striving for their inclusion and acknowledgment in traditionally exclusive spaces.

Following the keynote address, a panel session moderated by Chioma Nwokike, Head of Retail Segments and αlpher, ensued. The panelists included Chinasa Collins-Ogbuo, Advocacy & Communications Lead at EFInA (Enhancing Financial Innovation & Access); Dr. Zahra Modibbo, Managing Partner at Débbo Africa; Olajumoke Daramola, Specialist Advisory Services Africa at Women’s World Banking; and Esohe Adetola, Learning Solutions Manager at Shell Nigeria. They shared insights on how to reshape the discourse around inclusion and establish an environment conducive to the genuine flourishing and success of women, echoing the sentiment “Because She Can.”

In a statement on the sidelines of the event, Olufunmilola Aluko, Chief Brand & Marketing Officer at Union Bank, emphasized the institution’s commitment to equal representation and recognition of the remarkable talents and capabilities women bring to various sectors, irrespective of the industry or enterprise. Aluko emphasized the underlying message of this year’s theme, calling on everyone to strive for a just and equitable world where individuals are evaluated based on their abilities rather than their gender.
